Projectiles Abbreviations

The following abbreviations are generally used to determine the types of cartridges/projectiles used for the tests.

SWHP- Semi-Wadcutter Hollow Point

Protection Levels:

According to NIJ 0101.04 Standard

Level I : Not recommended for protection against firearms. This level may stop a .22 and a .38 ACP caliber. Usually built out of fibers from previous generations and generally bulky. Ideal for Paintball and AirSoft games.

Level IIA : 16 Kevlar ® 129 layers. The minimum recommended

Level III A : 30 Kevlar ® 129 layers. Usually reserved for high level threats. Heavy but more resistant. Can stop all the previous calibers and up to a .44 Magnum.

Level III : 45 Kevlar ® 129 layers. The maximum protection level for Kevlar Vests without the use of plates. Commonly used by Special Forces, this vest may be effective for all the calibers mentioned previously and up to 7.62mm caliber at specific distances.

Level IV : When used with steel or ceramic plates . May be effective against high power automatic weapons. Tested and adopted for .30 calibers with and impact of 3057 feet / lb.
